Moving from MoneyWiz to Fullgrove
Updated
To move your data out of MoneyWiz, export the database from its settings, which saves a ZIP backup. Share that ZIP to Fullgrove on your iPhone, look over the preview of accounts and rows, and confirm. The ledger is kept on your iPhone, and there is no bank login.

Export a backup from MoneyWiz
In MoneyWiz, open Settings, then Database & Export, and choose Export database. If you sync through iCloud, the option is Export iCloud database. On iPhone or iPad, pick a destination such as Save to Files. On a Mac, pick a folder and then send the ZIP to your iPhone.
MoneyWiz's help page adds two things worth knowing. The ZIP is not protected by your MoneyWiz PIN, so keep it somewhere private. The export also leaves out the image and PDF receipt files attached to transactions. MoneyWiz's help page on exporting a database has the current steps (checked 2026-10-02).
Bring the backup into Fullgrove
In the Files app, share the ZIP to Fullgrove, or pick Fullgrove in the share sheet wherever the file is. Fullgrove reads the MoneyWiz backup as it is. There is no need to unzip it or export CSV files account by account.
A preview shows the accounts, the number of rows and the dates they cover before anything is added to your ledger. You choose which accounts to bring over, and then confirm.
What comes across and what does not
- Comes across: accounts with their currencies, and every row with its category, payee, notes and tags. Transfers stay transfers. Balances are rebuilt month by month from each account's opening balance, and investment accounts use the last price MoneyWiz had.
- Stays behind: budgets, scheduled transactions and online banking connections. Receipt images and PDFs stay behind as well, because the backup does not contain them.
Check the result
Compare the list of accounts and each account's balance with what MoneyWiz shows. Cash, bank and card accounts should match. An investment account can differ for past months, because it is valued at the last price MoneyWiz recorded. Sharing the same backup a second time updates the rows that are already there and adds no duplicates.
Leaving Fullgrove again
Your data can leave the same way it arrived. Fullgrove exports the rows as CSV and everything as JSON. The archive format is open.
