Emergency fund calculator
Updated
Enter the money you could spend today and what one month of essentials costs. The calculator shows how many months that money covers, the target for the number of months you choose, and how much is still to set aside.
How it is calculated
Months covered = savings ÷ monthly essentials. Target = monthly essentials × months to cover. Still to set aside = target − savings, and never below zero.

Questions
How many months should I choose?
Three to six months is the range most guides give. People with irregular income or one income for a household often choose six or more.
What counts as essential spending?
What you would still pay if income stopped: housing, utilities, groceries, insurance, transport and minimum debt payments.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The sums run in your browser, and the page sends nothing.
